Donald Trump, a Republican?

Donald Trump. Donald Trump. Donald Trump. Russia. Jared Kusher. Hillary Clinton. Jeff Sessions. James Comey. The list goes on. Forget those names. Let's dive back into the basics. We'll take a little journey to the past...

Well, I think it's safe to say that Trump has not exactly been loyal to one to party. Let me explain: before 1987, our man Trump identified as a Democrat. From 1987 to 1999 he switched to the Republican Party. Okay, so he stays with the GOP for 12 years. What does he do next? No, he doesn't become a Democrat again. He joins Ross Perot's Reform Party. We all remember how well our third-party candidates did, right? Exactly. But, i'll lend some credit to the Reform Party. Perot did secure 8.4% of the popular vote in 1996. Pretty impressive. What does Trump do? Jump on that train as well. He runs as the candidate for the 2000 election and stays with the party from 1999 to 2001. What's that? Oh! It's Trump returning back to the Democratic party. He stays from 2001 to 2009 and what does he do? Switch to the Republican party again. Wait up. Wait up. It's time to switch parties again. He becomes an independent for a year. Perhaps you're starting to see a cycle of some sort? So he finally reverts to the Republican party once more. Since then, he as identified himself as "Republican". Why do I put that in quotes? Well, to many people it seems like he only ran for the Republican spot so he could secure a victory. Lo and behold, he is now our president.

Does he necessarily represent true Republican Conservative values? Well... maybe. He seems against gun control, and does seem against abortions. Let's not delve into those issues now. The fact of the matter is, he obviously seemed like a Republican, and Republican different from the "career politicians" like "Crooked Hillary", "lyin' Ted", "lil' Marco", "Low-energy Jeb", "Crazy Bernie"... @realDonaldTrump. He obviously seemed to appeal to the conservative voters, enough to gain the nomination. He said the things that the Republicans wanted to hear: gun rights, no abortion, no sanctuary cities, etc. Does he really represent them? I guess so. Is he a Republican, well, yes. He makes it very obvious he supports Republican viewpoints.

Sincerely,
Arik Li
