Japan 日本

Japan is an interesting and complicated county. The society is highly-advanced, and the country has produced numerous things. Anime, Sony, a bunch of electronics, awesome food, and so much more. Japan's economy is the third-largest in the world, and it has a high HGI. Who can forget how important the auto industry is in Japan. Some of the best cars in the world come from Japan.

Before the war, Japan was already a fast-growing nation as dictated by the Meiji Restoration that opened itself up to Western influences. Japan has definitely caught up with the world after WWII, and it is definite that it will continue growing as one of the most advanced nations in the world. Unemployment is at a surprisingly low 2.8%!

As there was no need to finance a military, Japan spent its money on improving its economy, and though it went through economic downturns in the 80's and 90's, it has come back and is still a country that is on the level of European and Western Nations. Japan is also highly-efficient, and people can build/fix things very quickly. Just look at these:

This took a week to fix.

It would've taken workers weeks to fix those in the U.S. I guess people here are just lazy.

Despite its success, Japan has its downsides. It has the 6th highest in suicide rate in the world, and it has a declining population. They can all be traced back to Japan's emphasis on men as breadwinners. Men are usually the ones who work, and they frequently overwork, leading to less time to raise a family and of course, having a lot of stress. Thus, many young men will kill themselves because they feel trapped and lost. Men who are unable to work do not have such a high chance of finding a wife, and have an ever less chance of raising a family. Even the ones who do have a family will usually only have one child. Irregular jobs are on the rise, and people are working too long. Labor unions essentially don't exist.

The Abe administration has not really done much. Recently, is has been too preoccupied by a more devastating problem, North Korea. Similar to the Trump administration, Abe's is more pro-business versus anti-regulation. There are not many rules that say people can work how many hours.

Additionally, Japan is an isolated nation. It's a group of islands, so you can imagine how expensive items are in Japan. A lot of things have to be imported, and land is scarce. It's even worse that Japan has numerous natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes. Then of course, there is the Spratly Island issue between China. China and Japan obviously don't like each other.

I guess for now, smaller problems should be put on hold because other international issues are even more significant and dangerous for Japan.
