Rome Lives On

See the source imageRome was one of the largest and strongest empires in the world until it split and was overcome by the Visigoths and then the Ottomans, Turks, and Muslim Caliphates. As dead as it seems, Rome lives on. The best example is the Latin alphabet. Yep, the same letters that you are reading right now. The spread of the Latin alphabet has been unique. It started in Southern Europe until it spread up into northern Europe until it replaced the other writing systems like runes and whatnot. With the growth of Great Britain, France, Spain, those empires carried their languages into the New World, Africa and Asia.

All of North, Central, and South America use the Latin alphabet, and most African nations use it as well. Even Asian countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, use them. Now, countries like Kazakhstan are switching over to the Latin alphabet to shed the remnants of the Russian-influenced Cyrillic language.
