The Rise of Gay Rights and the LGBT Movement

Before you say something, this article is not meant to be triggering or anything bad. I'm just trying to explain the facts. In case I say something wrong I'm sorry but get over it.

See the source imageOk so now. The history of gay rights in America should extend back for centuries. However, the first time we actually started seeing protests and all of the campaigns and movements was really in the 70s, a decade or so after the reversing of segregationist policies. You remember Brown v. BOE and of course history will explain itself. Anyway, with the win for civil rights, other people felt compelled to fight for their rights, and supporters of homosexuality felt more justified in speaking out. It just so happened that it was the era of the Vietnam War with people from all sides protesting and forming alliances, organizations, and movements. Thus, the gay rights movement has progressed.

Fast forward to the modern era, we find ourselves in Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark 2015 US Supreme Court ruling that made gay marriage the law of the land and to is recognized by every state. A big win for the gay rights movement it was indeed.

And now in 2018, we have Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, where a huge dilemma is in question. Do we protect gay rights under law or do we protect a person's First Amendment rights?
