How Cultural Values Can Cause Problems for the New Generation

In collaboration with Archie Chaudhury

Cultural values can impact a person's virtues, viewpoints, and educational level. For example, homosexuality has been a major topic of discussion in the past decade, and 1st world countries such as the United States and London have all but legalized same-sex marriage. However, cultural   differences have resulted in many religious groups rejecting the idea of homosexuality. Often, people with greater religious values are less likely to accept change, especially changes that go against their religious values.
However, culture is not only limited to religion. Actually, culture can encompass everything from nationality to standards of living. Two individuals who follow the same religion, are the same race, and are of the same nationality can vary greatly depending on their own personal experiences. These factors combined have driven home the idea of a stereotype.
This idea of grouping can actually help or brain, In theory, our brain works better if it sorts things into groups. Thus, if we have pre-conceived images and ideas of what a person originating from a certain ethnicity should act like, then we will automatically develop a bias without even knowing it. This can be especially deadly in the modern world, where a large majority of initial evaluations(college, job, volunteer) are done without meeting the person. It is important for us to let go of our perceived stereotypes and try to evaluate a person beyond his/her ethnicity.
