Is President Trump Standing up for America?(Opinion)

President Trump has faced a lot of criticism recently for allowing Putin to apparently boss him around. This is, at least, what contemporary media is making him out to be. However, this is simply not true. Recently, I read an article in the New York Times about how Trump apparently stands mum when he is confronted by big-name politicians. The article focused on Trump's relationship with Putin and his apparent failure to speak up for the American people. Along with the Times, Trump has also been criticized by the Washington Post for being complacent when confronted by dictators.

There is actually a lot of evidence to suggest the contrary. When confronted with the possibility of a nuclear attack by North Korean dictator Kim-Jong-Un in early 2018, Trump proceeded to threaten Un with war. While the comments made by Trump may not have been mature, they were offensive to Un, and showed that Trump was willing to stand with the American people. As someone who does not side with either party, the number one trait I look for in a president is someone who will uphold traditional American values and fight for all of the American people. If Mr.Trump, as the media outlets report, was truly someone who did not want to fight for America, he would not have tried to secure a better trade deal with China. During the past decade, the majority of American imports and products are being made in China, yet little of our products are being used there. This has led to what is being called a trade deficit, and despite the culture exchange occurring between both countries, trading has not been equivalent. President Trump addressed this issue and is fighting to correct it by imposing tariffs on Chinese products in an effort to correct the imbalance. Trump has stood strong by his beliefs when needed, an important quality to have in a president.

However, not all, of the media's reports are necessarily wrong. Many media outlets criticize Trump's language and maturity, and they are right to do so. President Trump himself has made apologies in the past for something he may have said, and I believe he truly makes honest mistakes. We have to realize the Trump is perhaps the first president in history to have no prior military or political experience. Instead of questioning his every move, we must give him room to grow. While I do agree that Trump has made some questionable comments in the past, and the media has been right to criticize it, I also agree that Trump has been clear in his efforts to support the United States and its core principles. He does not always do this maturely, as seen last week when Trump threatened Iran with attacks. Trump has done right by America, and we, as American people, must do right by him by providing him with support.
