Yes, the moon landing was real. Just like how the Earth is flat, I mean round. Heh heh. Yes, there are people with conspiracy theories who still believe in a fake moon landing and a flat Earth. That being said, it has been a while since someone visited the moon. The last time was in December 1972 for the Apollo 17 mission. Wait what!? 46 years!! Yes, believe it or not.
What gives? Well, NASA has been trying to send people back but the main reason it hasn't happened is that of budget and political issues. It's really not that there are technological problems. It seems only private companies like SpaceX will return people to the moon. Now obviously it's expensive to reach the moon, but not that expensive, relatively.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a permanent base on the moon? It could be a fuel depot for deep-space missions or help us create some off-world economy. Heck, we could colonize it and make it easier for us to reach Mars. The funding for NASA has dwindled over the years. It was 4% of the federal budget in 1965 but for the last 15 years, it's been 0.4% of the budget. What gives? Well, costs are rising and the SLS rocket program is delayed. NASA was developing the Constellation program but Obama decided to scrap it and instead launch the SLS program. President Trump has reversed that decision and is now moving to push more funding for more missions to the moon and Mars. In fact, Trump even wants a "Space Force", but I'll cover that later.
