Space Force

Doesn't the US already spend enough of its budget on the military? Yes, the US spends over 610 billion a year (3.1% of the budget) on the military. Second in the world to no one's surprise is China. But enough about China. Donald Trump has declared that he will start another branch of the military, a so-called Space Force that will protect us in the final frontier, space.

What? Yes. Trump brings up how as the world grows, more technology involves space. Think of GPS systems or satellite radio or all sorts of things that happen online. It is important to protect it. The idea of some military presence has floated around in the US government for the last two decades, but nothing serious has been done. Now that the US president has actually called for it, it's about to get serious.

Of course, that doesn't mean that Trump has overwhelming support. Many support it and many also say how it is wasteful spending and won't really benefit the US. However, many don't see the connection between the 'Space Force' and how Trump wants the US to return to the moon. It's time to innovate and keep doing what we used to do.

Obviously, there will be much consolidation and merge around of agencies, funding, resources, etc. However, he has promised to not interfere with the federal budget which should provide relief to taxpayers. If anything, it may save us more money in the long run so that the agencies and their funding can be reevaluated. Useless expenses can be cut.
