A Reflection on India

When I first stepped into International Politics, it was like the best website I had ever looked at. It had information from all over the world, and I was really excited.

One of the things I noticed was that the blog had little in terms of news from India. Because of this, I wanted to provide an update on the second most populous country in the world. India’s political system has seen major corruption in the last few decades, just like how Pakistan elected a former cricket player to be
it’s prime minister, India often employs the concept of nepotism, electing relatives of former politicians. Unlike the United States, where a newcomer could win if he as the right ideas, you have to have connections in order to win in India. Corruption is also rampant, where black money belonging to politicians can persuade them to do anything. Thus, bribery and threats are rampant, and scandals often emerge.

Politics aside, the movie industry is also big in India. Bollywood is perhaps the most popular foreign cinema enterprise to date, and it has also caused some problems. Most notably, India has seen many men become ultra-aggressive due to the pursuing culture that Bollywood shows. This has seen India have an unprecedented number of rapes in the past couple of years.  Women are often seen as property, especially in rural areas of the country. This is a major problem and something that India must address. A country’s wellness index is dependent on the rights afforded to women, and a country in India will need to give more rights in order to develop.
