Anti-Semitism in Universities

Image result for collegeAs a user on Change.org, I have seen many reasonable and great petitions. One of the petitions that have recently sprung up is that of Anti-Semitism in Universities. Many prominent universities are being petitioned, from Stanford to UC Berkeley. These petitions are often organized by Zionist movements and claim that the Israel people are being discriminated against, and I quote, “demonized” by the history faculty at these colleges.

As a minority member myself, I was at first inclined to support these petitions. However, once I really read the petitions and noticed that they really didn't have any major evidence, and the fact that none of them had any links or research papers to back them up. And, while the media may be seen as untrustworthy by some, I’m quite sure they are reliable enough to report on a scandal such as this. The fact is that the major anti-semitism crisis is going on in Europe, not the United States. In my opinion, the energy of the Zionist movement should be focused on fixing Labour, not fixing the apparent racism in college classes. Another fact of the matter is that much of their argument is derived from the books that the kids are taught with. Let’s face it, all books are in some way biased, and it is our responsibility to take the opinions of the book as needed. In the end, we can’t satisfy everyone.

Anti-Semitism, to a degree, will always exist somewhere. Just like homophobia, Islamophobia, and other racist/sexist ideas don’t seem to go away, the idea of anti-semitism will not in the minds of many. As global citizens, our responsibility is to lessen the impact of that discrimination as much as possible. We need to focus on the individuals if we are to fix this long crisis.
